Pope Francis grants “Nihil Obstat” for Medjugorje

Pope Francis grants his approval for devotion linked to Medjugorje, recognizing the abundant spiritual fruits received at the Sanctuary of the Queen of Peace. The former parish priest of Medjugorje, Father Marinko Sakota, expressed his great joy at the Vatican’s recognition of Medjugorje. He said he was so happy that I can hardly put it into words.

Pope Francis approved the Note on August 28th, 2024. It recognizes the goodness of the spiritual fruits linked to Medjugorje, authorizing the faithful to adhere to it since many positive fruits have been noted in the midst of a spiritual experience.

The places linked to the Medjugorje phenomenon have become pilgrimage destinations for people from around the world. The positive fruits are most evident in the promotion of a healthy practice of a life of faith, in accordance with the tradition of the Church.

Archbishop Cavalli begins his ministry in Medjugorje

Archbishop Msgr. Aldo Cavalli, appointed by Pope Francis as successor to the late Archbishop Henryk Hoser to St James Parish in Medjugorje, begins his assignment on Sunday. He inaugurates his ministry as Apostolic Visitor with Solemn Mass and is thanking all participants, the choir, Father Provincial, the Fathers Parish Priests, to all those who prepared this and above to the Lord and the Virgin Mary who wanted to send him here through the Holy Father.

Archbishop Henryk Hoser died at the age of 78

The Polish Archbishop Msgr. Henryk Hoser, Apostolic Visitator of Medjugorje, died in a hospital in Warsaw on August 13th, 2021 after a long and serious illness.

Archbishop Hoser has passed at the age of 78. The Funeral Holy Mass has been celebrated by Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz on August, 20th 2021 in the Warsaw. Archbishop Hoser has been buried in the cript of the Warsaw-Praga Cathedral.

Pope Francis sends the letter with expression of condolences and Christian hope, thanking Archbishop Hoser for all he has done for the Church. The Lord asked him to come from this earth, so he would take a place in the glory of Heaven. The Son of Man has come and took him.

32nd annual Youth Festival opens in Medjugorje

Over 20,000 young people from all over the world have gathered in Medjugorje to reflect, this year, on the theme “What good must I do”, Mt 19, 16.

The opening Mass, presided over by Father Marinko Sakota, Bishop Luigi Pezzuto, Apostolic Nuncio and Cardinal Robert Sarah, Emeritus Prefect of the Congregation for Worship on August 1st, inaugurated the start of the 6 day long Festival, while the closing ceremony is expected to be presided over by Nuncio Luigi Pezzuto, Bishop Guido Gallese and Bishop Wieslaw Lechowicz on August 6th.

Pope Francis sends a message to young people gathered at Mladifest. Entrusting them to the example of Mary, the Pope invites them to believe in the fullness and true happiness giving oneself to God brings.

40th Anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions

On June 25th, 2021, the 40th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions was celebrated in Medjugorje. Fr. Miljenko Steko, the Provincial of Herzegovinian Franciscan Province was the main celebrant of the Solemn Holy Mass, along with 368 priests concelebrating, which was the highest number in all these years for this occasion. Over 20,000 people from all over the world have gathered in Medjugorje to reflect this great anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions.

Thousands of people took also part in the 15-kilometer peace march at 06:00 a.m. on June 24th, 2021 from Humac to Medjugorje led by Father Marinko Sakota and visionary Ivan Dragovic.

Countless pilgrims also came from Ukraine to pray together with all other believers for peace in their country and in the whole world. Pray for peace, pray for Ukraine, protect from war all people who want to live in peace.

Largest Medjugorje Online Congress in 2021

The largest Medjugorje Online Congress took place on January 30th and 31st, 2021. 7 million people around the world took part. The congress was broadcast worldwide in 15 languages. On the 40th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady in Medjugorje, numerous interesting reports under the motto “Medjugorje, where heaven touches earth” were broadcast over the Internet, radio and television stations. The evening prayer program was transmitted from the parish church in Medjugorje.

30th annual Youth Festival opens in Medjugorje

Over 50,000 young people from all over the world have gathered in Medjugorje to reflect, this year, on the theme “Follow me”.

The opening Mass, presided over by Cardinal Angelo De Donatis, Vicar General of Rome, on August 1st, inaugurated the start of the 6 day long Festival, while the closing ceremony is expected to be presided over by Archbishop Salvatore Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting New Evangelisation on August 6th.

Pope Francis encourages participants in an annual youth festival at Medjugorje to discover the true adventure of life in the encounter with Jesus. Jesus gives life its true meaning.

Pope authorizes pilgrimages to Medjugorje

The announcement was made by the Apostolic Visitator, Henryk Hoser and the Apostolic Nuncio. Ad Interim Director Gisotti: “Attention given to favouring and promoting the fruits of good”, but this does not mean “an authentication of known events”.

Pope Francis has decided to authorize pilgrimages to Medjugorje, which can now be officially organized by dioceses and parishes and will no longer take place only in a private capacity which as has so far been the case. The announcement was made today during Mass, at the parish shrine which has become a destination for millions of pilgrims, by the Apostolic Nuncio Luigi Pezzuto in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Archbishop Henryk Hoser, the Holy See’s Special Apostolic Visitator.
